The school was founded in 1968 by the Rev. McCarthy and Missionary Hayes with the support of the United Holy Church of America, and has 450 students in Kindergarten through sixth grade. Hayes Mission school was created under the direction of the late Bishop J.T. Bowens, prelate of UHCA, Inc., and is named in honor of its founders/missionaries, McCarthy and Lois Hayes. ==History==
Established in September 1968, the school's first graduating class was in 1971, and its first Principal was Fr. McCarthy Hayes, of the UHCA, Inc. There were 9 students in that class. Classes were first held in the all-purpose building. School Hall, the first school building, opened in 1973, and consisted of four classrooms and a small library. The first expansion included the western wing of School Hall in 1974–77. The library was constructed in 1979–80 and the former library was converted into kindergarten classrooms. The enrollment ranged between 100 to 150 students for many years.
A football field was constructed in 1980 and dedicated by Bishop Hayes. Dormitories were added to accommodate the expanding number of students. The church, Upper Room Tabernacle, was reconstructed and rededicated in 2007.
There is an airfield and a hangar to house aircraft on campus. The school attracts students from all over the Monrovia and Bomi areas and has become competitive in its admissions process. As of the 2008–09 school year, the school had an enrollment of 150 students and 9.0 classroom teachers on an (equivalent|FTE ) basis, for a student-teacher ratio of 4.4.〔(Hayes Mission School ), National Center for Education Statistics.
